Review: Peak Design Mobile Wireless Charging Stand

Peak Design has been well known for their camera gear, but when they announced their mobile line of accessories there were a few products that caught my eye. I was in the market for a new wireless charging stand and decided to give the Peak Design wireless charger a try.

Unboxing the charger was pretty straight forward with two heavy slabs of metal hinged together to create the stand was sitting right on top, the only extras in the box were a USB-C to USB-C cable and some cable clips for organizing the charging cable. The charging stand itself is very hefty and feels absolutely premium and was even cold to the touch when first using it. The hinge can lay flat down or up at an angle depending on which way you would want to place your mobile device. With rubber feet on the bottom of the stand, paired with the heavy metal makes this stand difficult to move or rattle.

The USB-C cable is detachable however it does not include a power brick in the box which may add to the overall cost of the setup if you don’t have a supporting power source to give it the minimum 20W power it requires. The magnets are very strong and works with phones caseless and some cases depending on how strong those magnets are. I had no problem placing my iPhone 14 Pro in vertical or landscape as the charging stand forcefully attached itself to my phone; it may also help I’m using a Peak Design everyday case with my phone as well.

With the stand being able to lay flat and even have magnets on it, charging other items like earbuds may work as well if you’re looking to top up quickly without a cable; however if angled too much the buds may lose grip with the magnets and fall off.

Coming in at $79.95 USD without a charger and $99.90 with their 20W branded charger, I don’t see the full selling point of going with a single charging stand for that price. There are many other premium feeling charging stand that allow up to 2 devices and a watch to charge for that price and including a wall plug. But if you’re locked in to the Peak Design mobile system and are already using their case with the other accessories, you’ve probably already made up your mind in going with this charging stand. It’s a premium and great looking stand to have if you’re willing to dish out some extra cash.
